What is the PDO Thread Lift?
PDO (polydioxanone) which is a material that has been used in medicine for many years, mainly in surgery. PDO threads are soluble stitches that are laid under the skin and do not show at all.
Within a few weeks, they dissolve completely away but in the mean time, the magic happens. Your skin envelopes them in brand new collagen and this causes shrinkage in the surrounding tissue as the thread dissolves giving a gentle, natural lift as the collagen is formed. The threads can be used in numerous areas on the face and neck - an especially effective area is the brow where lines form right at the outer side which is a non botox area. Jaw lines can be given support as can the nose to mouth lines and cheeks.
How does the Thread Lift work?
The threads used are made of soluble PDO (Polydioxanone) which is a material that has been used in surgery for many years. PDO relaxes muscles and tendons and stimulates the neocollagenesis process, which encourages the production of new collagen in the skin. PDO also stimulates the synthesis of elastin and hyaluronic acid in the skin, both of which are vital for keeping the skin looking young taught and fresh.
The Treatment
First a topical anaesthetic cream is applied. Thread lifts are non-surgical, the medical practitioner uses a very fine needle to insert the threads into the areas that need lifting tightening or strengthening..
The treatment takes 45-60 minutes to complete.
Post-treatment
Because there are no cuts or incision required there’s no scarring. There is the possibility of reddening bruising and mild swelling for a few days after the procedure. There are no contraindications against returning to the patient's normal daily activity. .
What results can I expect from the Thread Lift?
The PDO threads will give the skin some immediate, natural improvement in appearance. However the full effect will take take a few weeks (our body makes collagen slowly). The threads are naturally absorbed by the body over six to eight months, the lifting and tightening effect of the treatment will be gradual over 12 months and the results can last up to two years.
